The Historical-Critical Method - The Historical Critical Method is a broad term that includes numerous methodologies and strategies for understanding the ancient Manuscripts. Historical Criticism is divided into two main branches: Lower and Higher Criticism. Source criticism - Source Criticism is an aspect of historical criticism, a method of literary study used especially in the field of biblical criticism that seeks to understand a literary piece better by attempting to establish the sources used by the author and/or redactor who put the literary piece together. Sometimes biblical scholars use the term literary criticism as a synonym for source criticism. Higher criticism - Higher criticism is a branch of literary analysis known as historical criticism that attempts to investigate the origins of a text, especially the text of the Bible.
